functional. escalators. noise. smell. grease. doves.
5 words for mostly any subway train station in the world.
Sub levels, labyrinths, impatiently waiting people, trains passing through.
I do love underground stations, St Petersburg, London and New York being the most impressive.
The smell of machine grease, the variety of people, the underground labyrinth, colors, neon signs, directions. All the time something happening.
Yet colorful and a lot to explore.
„this is main station“
A series about the beauty of Stuttgart´s underground S-train stations
In my latest series I want to show the hidden beauty, obscure, yet colorful elements of Stuttgart´s train stations.
Light and color – that´s what is getting my attention in these stations.
The stations Schwabstrasse, Feuersee, Stadtmitte and Hauptbahnhof surprise with different color wall patterns.
Green, yellow, red and blue. At Schwabstrasse, a long escalator ride takes you down into the station while passing massive yellow panels.
Main station covered in mostly red, with black and white patterns on the escalators. Stadtmitte dark green, blue for Feuersee.
What I like the most is the main stations underground . The complete wall structure is made of mosaique-style patterns in a specific orange tone. I bet those tiles never saw a ray of daylight.
The ilumination is diffuse, scattered, fading out along the beuatiful orange. With a color gradient range from white to any orange tone to black.
